Welcome Message

Welcome to Wellington – New Zealand’s capital – and home to Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.

We are one of New Zealand’s oldest universities with unique links to government, business, the courts and the diplomatic community. We’ve long been recognised as one of the leading universities in New Zealand, and we have a particularly strong reputation in politics and international relations.

In the QS World Rankings, we are regularly ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world for this discipline (along with 12 other subjects), and a recent review by the Tertiary Education Commission – the organisation that oversees the performance and funding for all New Zealand tertiary education providers – confirmed we have more A-ranked researchers in politics and international relations than any other New Zealand university.

This expertise is perhaps unsurprising given our proximity to Parliament and the public service, which allows our academics to establish and maintain close connections with decision makers, public servants, diplomats and NGOs. So when you come to our University you can be sure you’re working with the best connected, most informed academics in your discipline.

Wellington itself is a beautiful city, surrounded by native bush and based around our picturesque harbour. It is a wonderfully compact place and our campuses are within easy walking distance of the CBD and many of the city’s natural attractions. We hope you find the time to get out and about between conference sessions and enjoy what’s been called the world’s “coolest little capital”.

We are excited to host this conference, and we hope you enjoy your time with us.

Nau mai, haere mai (welcome)
