About Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok welcomes more visitors than any other city in the world and it doesn’t take long to realise why. Bangkok is a city of contrasts with action at every turn. Marvel at the gleaming temples, catch a tuk-tuk along the bustling Chinatown or take a longtail boat through floating markets. Food is another Bangkok highlight, from local dishes served at humble street stalls to haute cuisine at romantic rooftop restaurants. Luxury malls compete with a sea of boutiques and markets, where you can treat yourself without overspending. Extravagant Luxury hotels and surprisingly cheap serviced apartments welcome you with the same famed Thai hospitality.

Medical Care

Bangkok’s hospitals can handle any medical emergency; it is sensible to ensure you have adequate travel insurance that covers you for healthcare. If you have a medical condition that requires ongoing treatment, be sure to bring enough medication with you to last you for your entire stay in Bangkok. However, you are advised to bring a medical certificate with you sanctioning the use of such medications, since certain substances are banned.

Getting Around

There are many ways to navigate your way around Bangkok.

By Bus/Skytrain
While a bus or train ride may not always take you somewhere via the most direct route, it is a cheap and safe way to get around. The Skytrain is an efficient and convenient way to navigate around the inner city, at a cost low enough to relax and enjoy the ride.

By Taxi
Taxis are cheap and fares start at 35 Baht. Make sure the meter is on and showing 35 baht. Taxis are mainly sedan cars with a large part of the trunk (boot) taken up by a natural gas tank. The colours of the cab indicate which co-op they belong to.
